Valista’s Operator Payments Service

Valista’s OPS includes both an on-deck and off-deck payments service. With European and U.S.-based secure data centers with multiple network connections and clustered servers and databases it is designed to provide carrier grade up time and allow customers to purchase at any time they wish.

Off-deck payments service

With the mobile payments market looking to move to a direct billing model in addition to enabling Premium SMS, operators increasingly require payments infrastructure to support their off-deck content business and to allow payment transactions to be submitted to their billing systems, in a controlled manner. Valista’s next generation Operator Payments Service can be cost-effectively tailored to each operator’s billing and customer interaction processes to ensure that the consumer is aware of exactly what they are paying for when buying content off-deck (third party content), preventing unsolicited charging through real-time authentication and authorization. This implementation of financial services payments semantics provides for revenue assurance and allows all parties full transparency of the complete transaction process.

The service provides support for single and recurring charges such as subscription services. The service prevents revenue leakage with real-time authentication and authorization, refund management and integration to financial systems. It also provides comprehensive settlement and reconciliation services allowing automated, accurate settlement calculations between all parties and supports refunds and reversals automatically reflected in settlement statements.

Valista already enables direct-to-bill charging in an off-deck environment for leading operators including U.S. Cellular, Cricket Communications, Vodafone UK, France Telecom’s w-HA and Orange.

PayForIt

The PayForIt scheme in the UK is the first move by operators to provide a standard direct-to-bill charging facility. PayForIt is the consumer facing brand of the UK's cross operator Trusted Mobile Payment Framework scheme. Other similar initiatives are already taking shape in other European countries. The scheme’s rules focus mostly on the payment experience that accredited payment intermediaries (aggregators) must serve up and other general guidelines designed to provide greater charging transparency for consumers. It's initially designed to manage off-deck WAP purchases, but this will be extended to cover web purchases in future. Valista’s payments solutions, the ValistaPlus 4 Payments Module, enabled mBlox to become the first company to announce accreditation in the new PayForIt scheme. ValistaPlus 4 provides the robust, secure, transparent technology that aggregators, such as mBlox, needed to achieve PayForIt accreditation.

On-deck payments service

Valista’s Operator Payments Service is primarily aimed at off-deck business growth but can also enable on-deck business growth. The Operator Payments Service acts as a bridge between external parties and the operator’s billing infrastructure. With such a bridge in place, operators are then able to support controlled billing access, support the full range of access channels and interaction models, provide for proper consumer protection and experience, and scale their off-deck content business in an operationally efficient and profitable manner.
