Irish Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources visits Japan

Minister Éamon Ryan visited Japan from June 18-22 meeting with the Japanese Government, successful Irish companies and their partners.

DUBLIN, IRELAND and TOKYO, JAPAN — July 10, 2008 –Minster Ryan visited Japan to promote ICT links between Ireland and Japan in areas such as wireless innovation and digital media. As well as meeting with Valista and its partner, NEC, discussions also took place with Japanese government counterparts. According to Minister Ryan, “Exchanges of ideas with Japan, one of the world’s advanced economies, are vital in our pursuit of maintaining Ireland’s position as globally competitive information and knowledge society”.

Valista and NEC formed a strategic partnership last year to target payments solutions business opportunities in Japan with secure and flexible payments offerings. The partnership includes joint development of the 'Value Chain' payments platform, an emerging payments platform fuelled by multi-industry offerings. The ‘Value Chain’ payments platform is being designed for deployment on the next generation network and integration of Valista’s products into NEC’s NGN service application platform.

During his stay, the Minister also visited major Japanese high technology firms which have bases in Ireland and delivered a keynote address on Japan-Ireland ICT cooperation to the Ireland Chamber of Commerce Japan’s (ICCJ) Annual Business Dinner.
